Misti, I really think you need to write something like this as a guest post (not a comment) for the Ranters. Seriously. I would be happy to put you in touch with the two ranters I know personally. I think they’d like to hear your perspective. Let me know if you’re interested.

Thanks Jean, I may consider it. I don’t know how willing they would be as they generally don’t seem too enthusiastic about sharing that perspective.

But they’re all about ranting so you never know! Just let me know. I will see two of them (the last two original ranters) at the Fling in a few weeks so can talk to them then.

This didn’t read like a rant to me. It read like facts in response to fiction. It may also be your calm, measured tone. Thanks for the audio.

Thank you! I am always nervous when I try to counteract things like this. Am I knowledgeable enough, do I sound angry? And I'm glad the audio worked for you---I almost didn't do it but I know you like the audio and I think others may too!

❤️ I’m curious what you think the anti-native plant motivation is. Is it the almighty dollar? I feel like there’s a lot of money to be made in marketing and selling native plants. Am I naïve?

"not every locale is set up for a prairie. Forests, wetlands, deserts are all wonderful habitats and if your local landscape used to be that, consider trying to mimic it as best as you can in your own home landscape"

So many solid ideas here, I don't know where to start. So, it's that - don't emulate wetter areas with different soils, when you are in the Chihuahuan Desert averaging 8-9" rain / year with thin soils, and you expect dense cover without irrigation life support. And don't turn forest into prairie, expecting to not constantly pull out tree saplings, since you were a forest once.

Which all ties into your stating, "know your ecoregion."
